Stephanus de Lange
I was born in Pretoria back in 1957. Married Ronelle on the 2nd of May 1981 and we have to sons, Pieter and Hugo. Both still attending school.
In 1999 SuperSport invited me to spent six weeks in London UK for the Rugby World Cup. From the edit suite in BT Tower I had to produce daily updates and highlights of the RWC. It was tough but fortunately saw three games live. I am a Video Tape Editor for the only Pay Television Station in South Africa and started my career in 1977.
My two sons, Pieter and Hugo are typical city boys as well although Pieter starts to show some interest in nature and traveling as one of his subjects are Tourism at school. He told me he wants a short wheel base Land Rover as his first car but what he really want is something faster than a Series III !
Hugo still enjoys his primary school days and holidays at the coast the spent most of their time surfing and fooling around.
I have a great passion for the Great Outdoors and when I have the time, I like to explore the wild. My wife is a city girl and likes her luxury but will occasional join me on my adventures. She does not like the rock and roll of the Landrover over difficult terrain but she is a great cook and companion.
I don't have a great knowledge of the Web and computers but I try very hard to share my experience to those who are interested.
My desk at home looks like that of a major magazine editor's desk, strewn with paper and notes lying around about traveling in Southern Africa. I am from Africa, love this continent, hate it's crime but have a passion to learn more about her. I don't like Game Lodges and Private Game Reserves as they exclusively cater the very privileged and foreign tourist. I like to travel independently. Unfortunately Africa's people realizes the value and power of foreign currency and ignores those who "pay the rent". Countries like Botswana and Zimbabwe charges South Africans the same as other foreigners regardless of the fact that we pour more currency into their overall economy, by buying fuel, food ect.
Traveling into Africa has taught me to stretch my hard earned Rand to its utmost. I service my Landrover myself. Through this, I have gained invaluable knowledge regarding my vehicle, how to care for it, and solve problems in an emergency situation. I needed a 4x4 trailer. I built one myself. If I need a hot shower to keep my city girl comfy in the wild, I'll design and construct it. In doing so, I can care for and maintain it so much better.
Great luv for Land Rovers and photography.
