Restoration of Petit Trot

Two days after Severine and Henri left for France, the Landy was parked underneath my shed for its restoration.

We've washed the under carriage with high pressure water. Checked for cracks and loose bolts and nuts before painting it black with smooth Hammerite paint. Thereafter the big sanding of the outside body started. The engine bay was painted with Hammerite white by hand and some of the water rubber pipes were replaced with new ones. Old wiring were replaced and additional wiring were added.

I've discovered that the oil pressure meter was not very happy and decided to replace and add more vital instruments as the current Land Rover water temperature meter was also not reliable. So the search for iether Smith or VDO water temperature, oil pressure, ammeter started. I will build a delicate electronic volt meter and splitt charger for the two batteries. But where to house these new instruments as the Landy does have a proper dashboard! So a instrument panel has to be designed with bigger warning lights for oil pressure and altenator charge warning lights. The dashboard was removed to enable painting of the fire wall and to pay attention to three rust spots. All the interior was painted with white Hammerite smooth paint.

The upper door frames were rusted and these were either replaced with new ones (front) and fixed (back doors). The spare wheel carrier at the back was removed because it made a big noise while driving - will pay attention to the carrier but in the mean time will use the front bonnet for the spare wheel.

The big sanding and fixing some of the dents of the outside body started. Removing several layers of previous different colour paint, sprayed by several owners before took some time.

Here are some of the photos:

Rear diff prior to painting. The Salisbury rear diff prior to a coat of protection paint. We do realize that after traveling on dirt roads, the paint will chip off, but this will be repainted after every long trip, to prevent excessive rust.
